For those of you who have never watched the show, Warehouse 13 is about a group of agents recruited to collect artifacts that have the power to do harmful things. These artifacts were originally just your everyday objects; but when created by the right person and the right time with the right emotions, the object is imbued with a special power. Of course, in the real world, none of these are real (or are they?), but they really embody what separates us from all other organisms in the animal kingdom: the ability to imagine and fantasize. No other animal in this world has shown such an ability to adapt the environment to suit their needs to an extent we have reached.
Warehouse 13 has also shown me that we should not look at everything at just their face value, for you may never know what they can offer once you are willing to dig deeper. This, to me, is the true beauty of Science. The willingness of scientists to ask the Why? of everything and then use hard evidence to support their answers is just fascinating. Although most of today's research is done to further corporate goals, there are still a few out there who do it in the name of science and discovery, to enrich the lives of humans and to answer the questions no other animal has asked: Why is the sky blue? Why are we here? Why are we different? Are we unique?
Last but not least, Warehouse 13 has taught me that the Universe is worth exploring. Notice that I refrained from using world because I truly believe that there is something out there. Be it basic extraterrestrial life, intelligent extraterrestrial life or even God, the Universe is the true place of endless wonder. Of course, some people say we should start by exploring the depths of our oceans, the deepest caves and the tallest mountains, or solving problems like global warming, the energy crunch and poverty but my question to them is 'Why not do them all now?' There are 7 billion people on Earth and counting, surely we can divide our resources to explore the space we exist in.
The point I am trying to make is, I am sure our species will be the one who survives it all. We are undoubtedly a smart bunch. I believe that we would be able to solve any problems that come our way and more (as long as no one gets too greedy...). All in all, with the series finale of Warehouse 13, I hope that more shows like this should be created to inspire the next generation of TV watchers. Thank you Warehouse 13. We will miss you!
